Medical Examination Hints for your Client's Insurance Exam

The Paramedical examination is very brief, usually lasting 20 minutes. There is no disrobing required. A trained medical technician will ask your client a series of questions about their medical history as well as actually taking their height, weight, blood pressure and pulse. A urine sample may be collected as well as an electrocardiogram (EKG) and a blood draw. If an EKG is required, the electrodes must be affixed to the bare skin of the clients chest and lower legs. If a blood sample is required, one of their veins will be punctured. To obtain the best results, please follow these suggestions.
1. Have a picture ID available
2. Get a good nights rest.
3. Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours.
4. Avoid smoking for one hour before exam.
5. Avoid meat/pork products for 24 hours.
6. Tell examiner of medication (prescription or non-prescription).
7. Avoid salt for 24 hours.
8. Drink a glass of water one hour before the exam.
9. Have doctor(s) name and addresses available.
10. Allow twenty minutes for the exam (additional 20 if EKG is required.
11. Fasting may not be required; however, for a blood draw, a four hour fast is suggested (ask the examiner when they call for the appointment for how long to fast).
12. Avoid strenuous activity for two hours prior to the exam
13. Wear light clothes if overweight.
